Futures Discussion Group
|
The Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies (HRCFS) sponsors a semi-regular public discussion gathering on topics about the future, futures studies methodologies, space and technological forecasting, futures research, or other areas of related interest. These are open public discussions that usually feature students involved in the Futures Studies Academic Program at the University of Hawaii or other campuses, but also feature visiting scholars and researchers, university faculty or lecturers, representatives from local government or public policy agencies, and professionals in public or private institutions currently involved with futures research as a part of their careers.
The Futures Discussion Group, as it is called, is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in viewing how futures studies research is being applied today, and what topics in the futures field are being discussed locally, and globally by people who are integrating the study of alternative futures and futures methods in their present place of employment or course of study. It is also a venue for presenting one's own research topic to people directly involved in the futures field. All discussion sessions are taped on VHS and can be borrowed from the HRCFS Resource Room. Most events planned are held on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.
The HRCFS welcomes your ideas and suggestions for futures discussion group topics or possible speakers. To submit an idea for the next Futures Discussion Group, email your suggestions to the HRCFS Director, Jim Dator at <dator@hawaii.edu> be sure to include your name, contact information, university or organizational affiliation (if any), and the dates and times when you would like the event to take place. You may call the HRCFS at it's University of Hawaii office at (808) 956-2888, fax (808) 956-2889.
